Day Three - Kayaking in Monterey Bay

Today, we went kayaking on the sparkling Monterey Bay. The first step was fitting water proof clothing. The clothes had velcro straps at the neck, wrists, and ankles to keep the water from seeping into our clothes. We wore life jackets on top, but our feet were bare and covered in Cali sand. We kayaked along cannery row, and saw beaches, houses, and rocks. We saw seals sunbathing on the rocks. Although we had to stay 50 feet away, we saw otters and their cuteness while learning about their habitats. Our favorite part of kayaking was being on the water and learning about the bay.

Our trip was magnified by the warm weather and cool water. We enjoyed dipping our hands and toes in the salty water to cool them off. After kayaking, we were given time to roam the town. We shopped for sweets and souvenirs. Afterward, we walked to dinner where we filled our tummies with pizza and other Italian food. Finally, we drove to the hotel, where we relaxed and swam before lights out.

  1. Wow, what an experience to kayak in that cold water and get up close to the sea lions. Have you visited the Aquarium yet?

  2. How fun! Kayaking has to be one of the best ways to get the most out of Monterey. Hope you get to visit the aquarium, do the 17-mile drive, and maybe even snap a picture of the lone cypress! You guys have clearly had an eventful few days - can't wait to hear all about it! Best, Saad (Haanah's uncle)

  3. It sure is wonderful to hear about warm weather and cool water adventures as we brave the bitter onslaught of winter that we almost escaped in DC this year (I exagerate some). Baba always spoke longingly of Monterey and now you have some of your own memories from there, Haanah. I cannot wait to hear the grandpa-granddaughter duo muse over their separate love for the place. We miss you each day and cannot wait to hear in person anecdotes from your trip. Lucky Saad that you visit Chicago and him next. Love Mommy ❤❤😘🌊☀️🌴🌉✈️🏔
